Meghan Clyne’s article ridicules members of the New York Congressional delegation for introducing so-called “lunatic legislation” (“Keystone Congress,” PostOpinion, April 6). Every bill introduced by me or my colleagues is in response to some public need or our constituents’ serious concerns — there’s nothing “silly” about it. Clyne is amused by my bill to pardon Marcus Garvey, who was targeted by J. Edgar Hoover, making a name for himself in the 1920’s. She should speak to Garvey’s family or some of the thousands of African-Americans who revere him as a trailblazer for civil rights and inspiration to Malcolm X and Martin Luther King. As chairman of Ways and Means, I have brought billions of dollars to the city and state for infrastructure, tax relief, unemployment benefits and healthcare for children — all praised by Mayor Bloomberg and Governor Paterson.

I don’t expect you to write about any of this, but your selectivity in coverage speaks volumes.

Charles B. Rangel, Member of Congress, Manhattan
