I hope city Fire Commissioner Sal Cassano cleans house (“4-Alarm Crackdown,” Editorial, PostScript, Nov. 28).

The slackers in the FDNY are a disgrace to the firefighters who are on the job and still risking their lives. Deadbeats should be prosecuted for taking money under false pretenses.

I also hope the commissioner has an independent physician onboard to double-check medical reports.

It’s important not to tar everyone with the same brush. We still have a fire department filled with brave men and women for whom we should all have enormous respect. All we need to do is get rid of the deadwood.
