There is more than a crack-like flaw in the idea that injured New Yorkers should somehow not be able to seek and recover fair compensation from those responsible for the tragic July 18 steam-pipe explosion (“Lawyers at the Trough, Editorial, Oct. 27).

The question of who is liable – Con Ed, the city, neither or both – will ultimately be decided through our civil-justice system, which affords all parties their constitutional right to their day in court.
