The report, “A Seat of One’s Own” was produced in response to the law that mandated the city of New York to produce a class-size-reduction plan for the lowest performing and most overcrowded schools (“Class-Size Canard,” B. Jason Brooks, PostOpinion, Dec. 3).

CFE’s report was intended to provide a road map, detailing the realities and challenges for the city to come into compliance, particularly since the Department of Education allocated more than half of its CFE funds for class-size reduction.

School reforms that work require an adequate combination of plans and resources.

Ultimately, it is necessary to develop a strategic plan that addresses all the needs of students who have been denied their right to a sound, basic education – something that CFE spent 14 years to establish.
