Testing TSA metal
Meanwhile, right here at home there are fresh grounds to wonder about federal security efforts.
The Post reported Tuesday that airline passenger Berna Keiler, who has a 14-inch titanium rod in her hip, passed through metal detectors at JFK twice last year without triggering alarms. On Wednesday, Post reporter Lorena Mongelli carried a titanium chain through the detectors without notice — also twice.
Titanium, by the way, is often used to make weapons — including handguns.
The Transportation Security Administration’s response to these failings?
At JFK, “all walk-through metal detectors were tested,” TSA aide Ann Davis said, “and successfully passed.”
Ah, we get it.
The system is working.
Feeling safer yet?
We’re not.
