The Issue: Whether the Republican Party can redefine itself as cool and attract younger voters.

I read “The ‘Footloose’ Fix” (Glenn Harlan Reynolds, PostOpinion, Feb. 25) with interest, and found its proposals about lowering the drinking age and legalizing the unlocking of cellphones intriguing.

But there are many issues that John Lithgow’s character in “Footloose” would have opinions on.

He’d be against gay marriage. He’d be a fiscal conservative and oppose social-welfare programs. He’d be a big supporter of Israel.

I could go on and on, but the point is that the GOP really is Lithgow’s preacher from “Footloose.”

If Republicans were to use this fix, they’d be Democrats. That said, I think we could use a lot fewer sanctimonious scolds in this country.

Believe it or not, the younger generation cares about more than cellphones and alcohol. It knows about the Federal Reserve and doesn’t like the idea of drones being overhead watching its every move.

Republicans need to get back to constitutional principles and confront anyone who stands in the way of individual liberty.

Insisting the Constitution not be skimmed over and distorted in public schools would be a good start as well.
