How could Andrea Peyser pick apart one of the most wonderful days I have ever experienced in my 76 years (“Kate Puts On Brave Face Amid Tacky Spectacle,” April 30)?
With all that is going on in the world, it was a joy to see such a happy occasion with a beautiful bride, wonderful and crazy hats, the monarchy at its best and the attractive Middleton family.

The wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton may have been full of pomp and circumstance, but it was clearly a union based on love.
Peyser might not be able to understand that in other lands, such pomp is a valued historical part of culture and gives joy to the common person.
The couple took their time in life to be sure that they were doing the right thing in marrying, and it showed.
William could have married an aristocrat, but instead chose the woman who lights up his life.

The spectacle was “tacky,” the royals are “asses” and ex-girlfriends are “bimbos.”
Not even William’s sincere “You’re beautiful” to his new wife escaped Peyser calling his words “dorky.”
I suppose we are all fools for being touched by this resplendent, timeless event.

Granted, as Peyser notes, some of the royal mob made fools of themselves.
But regarding the kiss, Peyser should compare the photos of William leaning toward Kate and Diana leaning toward Charles. If the pose looks awkward, maybe it’s because the kiss took place before millions of people.

I love Peyser.
I always agree with whatever she has to say, and she makes me laugh so much.

Many of Peyser’s pieces are filled with sarcasm, some rightly deserved — but not here.
Millions of people all over the globe were temporarily part of a fantasy world — a spectacle that occurs perhaps once in a lifetime, and which we all were privileged to witness.
Just for the moment, it gave us all a respite from the troubles of the world. For that reason alone, it was a good thing.

How could the rest of us, the billions who watched the wedding, have missed so much — the terror in Kate’s eyes, the groom’s dorkiness, the queen’s impatience (and inappropriate attire) and the royal mob’s behavior?
All we saw was a beautiful couple celebrating their special day with a proud nation in attendance.

A failing economy, countless wars, rising gas prices, no jobs and high crime rates — yet all America seems to be worried about for the past month has been the royal wedding.

The royal wedding may have been over-hyped and over-publicized. I didn’t follow any of the buildup intentionally, but you couldn’t escape it, even in New York.
But save the bitterness for your coffee klatches. The world has enough anger and hatred in it.
