THE ISSUE: The NYPD’s handling of a man who climbed up a Times Square traffic pole.

It’s a sad state of affairs when police have to worry about doing their job (“The Finest’s Not-So-Finest Hour,” Editorial, June 29).
The NYPD officers should have tasered that clown for holding up the city for as long as he did, but instead they were probably worried about being sued. It’s ridiculous.

It wasn’t that long ago that NYPD officers encountered a man on a window ledge who had some issues.
The end result was that after the officers decided to taser the man, he accidentally fell to his death.
Everyone was so quick to point fingers at the cops.
Now, you are quick to point the finger at them for not acting in the same manner.
As a police officer, I can tell you that there are so many laws put in place to protect criminals, you would think they’re an endangered species.

Why is it that the NYPD is vilified for everything it does?
Some nut climbs up a pole in Times Square, and the police have to stop traffic to coax the guy down.
Everyone’s safety is the main concern of the NYPD, even the nut on the pole.
The real blame should go to the ACLU, which prefers that mentally ill people who are a danger to themselves and society not be forced to take their meds.

It is disturbing that a Post editorial suggests a quick, violent end to the Times Square “show” when the police handled the situation correctly.
This event should continue to be handled correctly by the justice system, allowing the perpetrator as much time as possible to
display his musical talents from where he belongs — in jail.
