THE ISSUE: Hugh Jackman’s hosting of the 81st Annual Academy Awards last Sunday.

Hugh Jackman did the Oscars so well, yet The Post has to bag him (“H’wood’s Dullest Night All Waste & No Taste,” Feb 23).
Why? Is it because an Australian did better than any American could do?
When will Americans learn that there are other countries on this planet? For a small country, Australia has had many worldly accomplishments.
Wake up, America.

Though I think host Jackman tried his hardest, “The Sexiest Man Alive” just was not entertaining enough at the 2009 Oscars.
Bring back a comedian as host – at least comedians liven up the show and bring us a few laughs and controversies through their off-color jokes.

The Academy’s attempt to make the evening an intimate event, with musical numbers interspersed throughout, resulted in one big yawn of a night.
Jackman is a likable fellow, but the Oscars are not Broadway, and I had hoped that the days of those awful production numbers were over.
The evening needs a comedian to host the event. How about Tina Fey next year?
I watch these awards to see the film clips of the nominees, not to hear introductions that are obviously being read from a teleprompter when the nominees are presented.
I wish the Academy would stop trying to change the things that attracted us loyal viewers in the first place. This is a movie awards show, not the Tonys.
