THE ISSUE: Tiger Woods’ apology in his first public appearance since news broke of his affairs.
***
I wholeheartedly agree with Andrea Peyser: Tiger Woods’ self-styled “press conference,” a rehearsed, flaccidly delivered speech with no questions from the press, was both “cranky” and “weird” (“Just a Tiger in Sheep Clothing,” Feb. 20).
All in all, it was a forced and phony performance, full of apologies but also replete with resentment about intrusion into his coveted privacy.
The sole motivation behind Woods’ long-delayed, staged event was the almighty bucks of past and future sponsors.
Even if he successfully completes rehab and restores his marriage, Woods’ image as a paragon of the American Dream is shattered beyond repair.

I just listened to Woods’ speech and found him to be very genuine and sincere.
It put a lump in my throat and a tear in my eye. I don’t know who wrote it for Woods, but President Obama should find out.
The president could surely use such a well-written speech to apologize to the American people for the mess he has made in his first year, make amends and get some counseling before the next few years of his presidency.

What more does the press want from Woods? Lighten up, guys.
Woods gave a very believable and apologetic speech, and until he proves otherwise, his apology should be accepted.
Criminals are given a second chance; Woods deserves nothing less.

The real tragedy in the life of Woods is the fact that he did not have a single true friend who cared enough to warn him where his disorderly life would eventually lead.
He was surrounded by hangers-on who, instead of giving sane advice, helped in his careless career of shameful lust.
As part of his therapy, Woods needs to find some true friends and listen to them.

With all the important things happening in the world, why would The Post give nine pages to the Woods nonsense?
I never feel sorry for someone making more money than me.
Murder, mayhem or crooked politicians — take your pick, but, please, no more Tiger Woods.

Woods’ problem is that he has a monstrous ego. He is used to getting anything he desires and has gone through life demanding it.
Woods thinks he is a god because he can swing a golf club well and put a little ball in a hole. Wake up! Swinging a golf club expertly does nothing for humankind.
It’s time for Woods to wake up to reality and finally do something worthwhile.

Why is everybody so interested in the lives of others? I find even the need for a public apology hilarious.
This pathetic drama is like an “SNL” sketch.
The vast wasteland has truly arrived.

Woods Inc. is sorry for his adultery and revenue loss, but Woods the person is going back to hiding in sex rehab for the wealthy and may even find his own voice.

Why does it seem that nobody is satisfied with Woods’ apology?
He went away for rehab, apologized in front of the world and is trying to save his marriage.
Let he who is without sin cast the first golf ball at him.

The mistake that Woods made was marrying before he had sown his wild oats.
If he were single, only a few of his fans and writers would have condemned his actions.
Woods was too immature for marriage and its restrictions on his love life.
