There were two trophies awarded at the British Open last Sunday (“Watson Bogey’s 18 To Miss Shot at History,” July 20).

One was the claret jug rightfully won by Stewart Cink that can be physically held, touched and seen.

The other trophy was the one for class, style, dignity and grace that was won by Tom Watson — a true American hero for the ages.

Gerald Farmer, Bondville, Vt.
