TRAFFIC JAM AHEAD
Stimulus money is supposed to create or save jobs, not be used to pay for raises (“Mayor Mike’s Complicity,” Editorial, Aug. 12).
Instead of investing that money to turn New York’s transit system into one which will begin to meet the needs of 21st-century New Yorkers, former NYC Deputy Mayor John Zucotti and outgoing TWU Local 100 President Roger Toussaint did the unthinkable.
They took money earmarked for new construction projects, which would have improved service to all New Yorkers, and amazingly awarded transit workers a compensation package that the MTA cannot afford.
Thanks to their myopic decision, the MTA will once again be forced to delay a needed project that will actually benefit the public.
