“Liar, Liar, Big Boob’s Pants ARE on Fire” (John Podhoretz, June 7) illustrates how Twitter can make or break a politician.

Using Twitter is critical for politicians looking to maximize their potential. However, it’s critical that they understand Twitter’s benefits, limitations and broad reach. Twitter use is increasing rapidly, and this breeds intensified scrutiny, especially from politically astute followers.

Rep. Anthony Weiner used Twitter effectively throughout the past year and became a rising political star. However, he learned a tough lesson: What Twitter giveth, it can taketh away.

Politicians using Twitter must have a clear purpose for doing so, and remain strategic and disciplined. Otherwise, they risk the same ill fate as Weiner.
