Extending the No. 7 train to 11th Avenue is a foolhardy waste of money, and I am disappointed to see The Post supporting the overextension of a system that the MTA already is unable to maintain or operate properly (“Magnificent 7,” Dec. 4).

Huge capital projects and the accompanying mountains of debt will simply compound the MTA’s operating-budget problems and dictate poor service levels for generations to come.

Alternatives, such as implementing high-volume East and West Side ferries and dedicating major cross-town streets to more frequent and rapid bus service, should be explored first.
