Wesleyan University’s student government just voted to slash funding for the school paper, The Argus, by more than half. It was a blatant concession to the politically correct speech police — but these kids didn’t even have the guts to admit it: They pretended they were just being green.

Officially, the cut is part of an effort to “reduce paper waste.” In fact, it’s a sellout to the faculty and students who targeted the paper after it dared to run . . . an opinion column that questioned the rhetoric and methods of the Black Lives Matter movement.

The funding cut was a specific demand of the protesters, who also went ’round confiscating (trashing) all copies of the offending issue.

For the record, newsprint is the easiest major commercial product to recycle — it’s the only part of most recycling programs that actually makes money. That means even the student government’s cover story is a lie.

Of course, Wesleyan is one of the most PC campuses in America. Perhaps it’s a silver lining that, even there, the student-politicians wouldn’t admit they were punishing free speech.

That said, the impulse to shut down even mild criticism of your sacred cows is the worst poison in modern academia.

Shame on you, Wesleyan.
