Joel Klein realized that improving academic achievement required radical innovation; that’s why the Department of Education invested in cutting-edge professional development at the start of his tenure (“School for Snowflakes,” Editorial, Aug. 17).

Even a superficial look at the training offered by All Kinds of Minds reveals how understanding brain research on learning provides key insights into why students struggle.

Why bring in expertise in learning variation? Klein said it best – we have to taper our education to the needs of kids, rather than taper the kids to the needs of education. We’re proud to be part in the success that the department has had in improving in math, reading and writing achievement. We’re equally proud that 23 independent studies have helped to evaluate and validate our success across the country.
