The Post makes a farfetched and false connection between saving firehouses and supporting the city’s cultural institutions, “accusing” Wildlife Conservation Society and others of paying executives with city funding (“Keep the Firehouses, Lose the Brie,” Editorial, May 24).

At WCS, city taxpayers do not pay for any senior executive salaries. And, in any given year, WCS executives raise $80 million from non-city sources to keep the New York Aquarium and the Bronx, Central Park, Prospect Park and Queens zoos open for all New Yorkers. A $400 million private endowment subsidizes operations as city support dwindles.

Our beloved parks have stayed in the black because of private fund-raising efforts and fiercely sound management. We raise $8 to support the parks for every $1 provided by the city. Ward W. Woods, Chair, Board of Trustees, Wildlife Conservation Society, The Bronx
