Traditional personal shoppers may help you find goods for your home — but they’d never do it for free. But now there’s Hamlet, which is. Launched in July, the shopping service operates via the simplest of communication methods: text message.

The process is easy.

You text Hamlet’s number (646-586-2260) and say what you’re looking for. After some initial automation, you’ll be communicating with a real stylist, based in Union Square.

(Currently, there’s only one on staff, and he’s almost at capacity.) You will probably exchange photos with the stylist, and eventually make a purchase based on the recommendations.

“We want to bring service back to the home,” says founder Britt Caputo, formerly of online retailer One Kings Lane.

“Instead of asking people to shop at a store, we think that having a personal in-home stylist is really valuable.”

Now, here are five things you should know about the startup and its services.
