The Fort Greene firehouse where Oscar-winning director Spike Lee once rented an apartment to house his production company is back on the market.
The building, converted into two loft apartments in the 1980s, is asking $4.9 million. (The listing can be purchased as a two-family spread for income potential, a single-family conversion, or as a live/work space.)
Spike LeeJordan Strauss/Invision/APThe property, at 124 DeKalb Ave. — formerly Engine Company 257 — is on the corner of Fort Greene Park. It comes with a two-car garage and old firehouse features, like a shaft that runs the height of the building that was used to hang fire hoses to dry — space that could potentially be expanded to install an elevator.
The three-story home is 5,775 square feet, 25 feet wide and 77 feet deep. Built in the 1920s, it also features original Art Deco details, like etched glass panels, oak/marble trim and barrel vaulted ceilings.
A firehouse residence is rare but not unique in New York. CNN host Anderson Cooper owns a former Manhattan firehouse at 84 West Third St., which he bought for $4.3 million in 2009.
The Fort Greene listing broker is Citi Habitats’ Sarah Adler.
