If the shoe fits, wear it. And if the Hamptons estate of a late shoe magnate is a good fit, buy it.
Vince Camuto’s 15-acre Villa Maria estate in Water Mill, NY, has entered contract after a decade on and off the market, Women’s Wear Daily reports.
The identity of the buyer is unknown. The final price paid for the lavish property, which most recently asked a sky-high $72 million, is also a mystery.
Camuto, who cofounded Nine West in the 1970s and died in 2015 of prostate cancer at age 78, and his wife and business partner, Louise, first listed the estate for $100 million in 2008. They purchased it in 2005, when it was reportedly run-down, for $35 million.
Though it languished on the sales market, Villa Maria spent some time as a rental. Alex Soros, son of billionaire George Soros, shuttled models to and from the property — and even hosted sports stars, such as Joakim Noah — during his tenancy in summer 2016.
After their 2005 purchase, the Camutos spent five years renovating Villa Maria. Work included enlarging the existing shingled home into a four-story, 20,000-square-foot mansion, Architectural Digest reported, and the construction of a connected carriage house.
Today, Villa Maria has 11 bedrooms (the master suite alone has six rooms), 12 bathrooms and a powder room. Beyond the massive main house, the grounds contain a cottage for guests, an all-weather tennis court, a heated pool and two pool pavilions. Villa Maria also enjoys 1,100 feet of waterfront on Mecox Bay.
