Big changes for the hellish, traffic-clotted thoroughfare known as 34th Street. Yesterday the NYCDOT revealed plans to construct a divided “two lane, bi-directional bus lane aligned against one curb of the street.”
In other words, no more hour-and-a-half cross-town bus commutes. In fact, according to Streetsblog, the new river-to-river travel time should be 20 minutes — an estimate that seems insanely optimistic, but, hey, sounds good. Somewhere, no doubt, Adam Gopnik is cheering lustily.
