What’s even more exclusive than a BergenBag? BergenBag maker Candice Bergen’s Hamptons home, now on the market for $18 million.

As wealthy Manhattanites flock to the Hamptons, the actress, fashion model and movie star is bucking the trend, selling her cottage-style second home at 72 Lily Pond Lane, one of the most exclusive streets in East Hampton.

“They [Bergen and her husband] were just ready to sell,” said James Petrie. Co-listing broker Ed Petrie said they planned to show the home off-market before listing it in March, but news got out early, so they listed it. Bergen and her husband, real estate developer Marshall Rose, also have a home on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan.

Bergen’s husband commissioned the six-bed, six-and-a-half-bathroom home for his first wife in 1986 in the classic Hamptons style. Soon after he married Bergen in 2000, the pair commissioned the home’s original builder, Jaque T. Robertson of Cooper Robertson, to customize the home.

“All the houses on Lily Pond remain in the old-school cottage style. It really feels like you’re in a blast from the past of what East Hampton used to be, which, you only get that in certain areas,” said listing agent James Petrie. “That’s what people with that kind of money try to get — old-school houses in the best locations.”

Renovations paired classic Hamptons cedar shingled roofs with an enclosed porch, an open first-floor floorplan and whimsical touches like metallic horses and bulls.

“The porch runs the length of the house with a beautiful overhang. It’s a great spot,” said Ed.

With 4,500 square feet only minutes from the beach, the 1.8-acre property has an eye-catching, large circular window facing the front of the building, plus a large garden, a fountain and a pool.

“The way the whole property lays out is great. The house is pushed up to the front of the property, giving the backyard more space to breathe,” said James.

The property has a separate guest house converted from an old horse barn, and the remaining stalls create office and small gym spaces, said Ed.

The listing is co-listed by Compass agents Ed Petrie, James Petrie and Charles Forsman.
