One of the most reputable equestrian farms in America has hit the market for $5.83 million.
The historical property, located in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, is the last vestige of a 280-acre estate built for the prominent Vanderbilt family.
Known as the Sandy Point Stables, the property was designed by architect A.S. Walker.
Construction began in 1860 and would not be completed until 42 years later, in 1902.
At its peak, the farm was used as “the epicenter for society during the summer social season,” the listing notes.
It was owned by Reginald Claypoole Vanderbilt — the son of Cornelius Vanderbilt, who built his wealth in railroads and shipping.
Reginald was the grandfather of CNN journalist, Anderson Cooper. An avid equestrian and sportsman, he was a horse breeder and spared no expense building the spread.

It’s being sold with three different adjacent lots, occupying nearly 6 acres of land and over 30,000 square feet combined.
