With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, we suggest a novel and design-friendly way to say “I Love You” in a way that benefits the community as a whole.

Adopt a bench in Central Park, through the Central Park Conservancy.

After all, Evelyn Lauder did it.

Her bench reads: “Reserved for Lovers Only. 40 Joyous Years. Evelyn and Leonard Lauder.”

“I once got a letter from someone who wrote that she didn’t have a lover. Could she still use the bench? I thought that was cute!” Evelyn says.

Leonard returned the favor by dedicating another bench to commemorate their 50th wedding anniversary. The plaque, approved last year, reads: “To my beloved Evelyn/Our 50th anniversary is just the beginning. Love, as always, Leonard.”

“You can always send a card or flowers, but that’s kind of boring,” Leonard says.

The cost: $7,500 per bench.
