The midcentury modern home of the late artist Fred Otnes has hit the market for $1.5 million. The house, at 26 Chalburn Road in Redding, Conn., is 3,004 square feet.

The property features three bedrooms and two bathrooms — all on 3.34 acres. It sits on a grassy knoll and boasts a pool carved into a natural stone quarry with a waterfall, a Zen garden and “specimen plantings,” according to the listing.

Otnes commissioned John Johansen, one of the architects in a famous group known as the Harvard Five, to design the stunning home, which was built in 1960. Inside is an open floor plan with floor-to-ceiling windows, multiple decks and pergolas with tempered glass.

There’s also a chef’s kitchen and an artist studio/workroom that can also be used as a master bedroom suite with a skylight. Otnes, an illustrator and painter who also worked with collages, lived there for more than 50 years until his death in 2015 at age 89.

The listing broker is Inger Stringfellow, of William Pitt Julia B Fee Sotheby’s International Realty.
