John King, CEO of J. King’s Food Service, one of the largest food distribution companies in the New York area, has put his Shelter Island waterfront beach manse — the only one for sale on Dering Harbor — on the market for $8.99 million.

Once a carriage house of an old grand hotel in the Village of Dering Harbor, it moved to its present location, at 29 Winthrop Road, where the co-founder of the Grumman Aircraft Engineering Corp., Edmund Ward Poor, bought it.

In 2007, King purchased the home, set on 1.7 acres, for $3.5 million and dramatically expanded it to 9,230 square feet, with six bedrooms, six-plus bathrooms, five fireplaces, a temperature-controlled wine cellar and a four-car garage. There’s also a deep water dock and room for a pool.

The listing brokers are Penelope Moore and Noel Love of Saunders & Associates.
