The stately longtime home of legendary, sultry ― and sadly departed ― star Lauren Bacall has entered contract, according to StreetEasy and multiple reports.
Most recently asking $23.5 million, the contract price for the co-op in the iconic Dakota, and even the identity of its deep-pocketed buyer, are not immediately available.
The actress’ estate first listed the 4,000-square-foot three-bedroom spread for $26 million in November, just a few months after Bacall’s death last August at the age of 89. It’s rumored she bought the unit for $48,000 in 1961.
Five of the apartment’s nine rooms face Central Park, spanning 100 feet of frontage, according to the listing. Another perk: Pre-war details abound, including plaster moldings, shutter-framed windows and hardwood floors.
The 18-foot entry foyer has its own fireplace, and a 70-foot gallery connects the public rooms — ―including the library, which has original pocket doors, a fireplace and a Juliet balcony over the park.
There’s another fireplace in the great room, as well as wainscoting in the dining room. Meanwhile, the 22-foot master suite has walk-in closets. The iconic Upper West Side building’s famous residents have included John Lennon (the Beatle was shot there), Judy Garland and singer Roberta Flack, whose two-bed unit here asks $9.5 million.
