Let there be lights
It’s December, which means the city is awash in lights — the Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center, the Swarovski snowflake on 57th Street, the laser light show at Grand Central. And condo buildings are getting in the spirit, too, offering residents — and the public — a hearty dose of holiday cheer.
One Hanson Place
Fort Greene, Brooklyn
As if the Art Deco hall of this former Brooklyn bank — now home to both the lobby of One Hanson Place and the event space known as Skylight One Hanson — weren’t impressive enough, its dramatic features have been further enhanced for the holidays. LED lights illuminate the 40-foot-tall windows that are inset with intricate metal figures. Those red lights in the tower? They indicate which condo units are still available — in seasonal style.
One Jackson Square
122 Greenwich Ave.
There’s a new holiday tradition in the West Village — the illumination of Jackson Square Park. And right across from it is One Jackson Square, a new condo building that’s part of the Jackson Square Alliance, a nonprofit dedicated to beautifying the green space. This Christmas, that involves blue, green and white lights trimming the park’s gates, trees and stone fountain.
MeadowWood at Gateway 1019 Van Siclen Ave.
East New York, Brooklyn
Tonight at 6 p.m., residents of MeadowWood at Gateway and the surrounding East New York neighborhood can enjoy the second annual tree-lighting ceremony taking place on the main lawn of the 20-building condo complex. To accompany the festive occasion, an all-girls choir from Preston High School will sing a cappella; there will also be a raffle with prizes.
Murano 5-19 Borden Ave. Long Island City, Queens
There’s only one building in Long Island City whose exterior pulses red, white and green. Visible throughout Queens, and all the way to Manhattan, the Murano’s eighth and ninth floors will put on a light show throughout the month, from dusk until 10 p.m. And residents will be treated to their own private light show, courtesy of a wall of computerized LEDs in the lobby.
Griffin Court 800 10th Ave.
The 8,700-square-foot private courtyard of the Griffin Court condo building in Hell’s Kitchen has been turned into a winter wonderland, with hundreds of white LED lights decorating the trees. The public is welcome to stop by and check out the display, and enjoy seasonal treats like apple cider and hot chocolate, during Sunday open houses from 1 to 4 p.m.
