A stately Long Island estate built by New York Senator James Williams Beekman in the 1850s has returned to market for $12 million. 

The Victorian-Gothic style Gold Coast mansion at 1026 West Shore Road in Mill Neck was designed by English architect Henry G. Harrison. 

It is known as “The Cliffs,” and currently sits on 16 acres. It gets its name from its perch on a 150-foot cliff overlooking Oyster Bay Harbor and Connecticut over the Long Island Sound.

The 10,000-square-foot home originally listed in 2017 for $19 million, according to Zillow, then later reduced its asking price to $16 million in 2017 before heading off market in 2018.

The property comes with six bedrooms, five bathrooms, three powder rooms — and nine woodburning fireplaces with original mantles. There’s lots of wood detail — including beamed ceilings and paneled walls — a 1,000-plus-bottle wine cellar with an adjacent wine tasting room and a large chef’s kitchen with a butler’s pantry.

The grounds also come with two original cottages.

The first is a one-bedroom, one bathroom home; the second is a two-bedroom, 1½-bathroom structure. Both have been renovated and restored.

There’s also a pool, a tennis court, and a 2,000-square-foot greenhouse.

The present owner fully restored the estate, from structural improvements to security, said listing broker Clifford Packingham, of Compass.
