Grand Canal palazzo in Venice.Courtesy of Venice Sothebys… That, as the 73rd Venice Film Festival begins on Aug. 31, a Grand Canal palazzo — where Sophia Loren stayed during the 1955 Venice Film Festival — is on the market for $6.66 million. Dating from the 15th century, it features Grand Canal views, a private terrace, a water gate and its own mooring with a private lift. Ernest Hemingway also stayed here during his “lagoon duck hunt” periods, described in “Across the River and into the Trees,” which features a character, Baron Alvarito, who is supposedly based on the palazzo’s then-owner, Baron Franchetti. The Baron’s sister, Afdera, married Hollywood royal Henry Fonda in 1957. The palace is listed with Venice Sotheby’s International Realty.
