A historic property made its way to Bravo this week.

The most recent episode of the South Carolina-set “Southern Charm” took a trip on down to the only plantation ever designed by the late great architect Frank Lloyd Wright. 

The cast takes an hour-plus bus ride to the property, which belongs to one of Whitney’s friends and just so happens to have been built by “America’s most famous architect,” as the show members repeatedly refer to Wright, according to Vulture’s recap of the episode. 

Once there, one cast member compares the room to a 1970s porn house. 

Known as the Auldbrass Plantation, it’s actually of historical significance and is considered “one of the largest and most complex residential projects Wright ever undertook” in his entire career. The 4,000-acre compound on the banks of South Carolina’s Combahee River includes multiple one-story structures including a main and a guest house, a caretaker residence, staff cabins, barn stables and various amenities including an aviary and a pond with “dining barge,” all linked by esplanades.

The buildings feature Wright’s famous natural aesthetic, with slanted — not straight — walls throughout to recall the slant of trees on the grounds, and exterior walls made of native cypress. 

The plantation was completed in 1987, 28 years after Wright’s death in 1959. 

“Though Wright worked on the Auldbrass commission over a [20]-year period, only half of the planned buildings were realized before the death of both Wright and the client,” the website says. Following their deaths, the property fell into disrepair before being acquired, restored and completed by “The Matrix” and “Die Hard” producer Joel Silver with the help of Wright’s grandson. 

Although the property is private, today it is reportedly open to the public for ticketed tours one weekend every other year through the Beaufort Open Land Trust.
