What will 2019 look like?
Last week, Pantone — a company with a proprietary matching and labeling system widely considered the global authority on color — named Living Coral, a vibrant orangey pink, as its Color of the Year for 2019.
The shade sits with Sherwin-Williams’s sun-kissed terra-cotta hue Cavern Clay on the warmer side of the spectrum.
Paint companies Behr and Benjamin Moore both chose cooler colors: Metropolitan, a sophisticated gray that calls for quiet, and Blueprint, a muted teal inspired by architectural plans.
Interior decorators, home retailers and designers use these annual forecasts to inform their work and inspire new products.
Here are some ways to bring the trendiest shades into your home.
Living Coral
TempaperThe future is bright — bright pink to be exact. Pantone aims to capture the current cultural moment with its selection; the company says that coral represents our “innate need for optimism and joyful, lighthearted pursuits.” Lean into the tropical vibes with a punchy flamingo-print wallpaper ($98/roll). Yes, it’s bold, but Tempaper products are repositionable and removable, so you can change it up when the mood strikes (or when the 2020 colors are announced).
Metropolitan

Who says gray has to be boring? Benjamin Moore’s color of 2019 is a subtle hue that taps into a desire to drown out the world’s cacophony. Metropolitan is a calming, versatile neutral with cool undertones. Bring the muted shade to your tabletop with a pitcher and swirled porcelain bowl from Unison Home (from $74.95), or add it as an accent around the dining room table with Anthropologie’s plush velvet Elowen chair ($398) that has a clever brass handle in the back.
Blueprint

Whether on kitchen cabinets, the exterior of a house or bedroom walls, Blueprint by Behr is a soothing blue-green that’s approachable and adaptable. Not ready to commit? Opt for accessories: You can never have too many small bowls. Use them for anything and everything, from food prep and serving tapas to storing bits and bobs in the bathroom and as a console table catch-all. This teal number from H&M is $3.99, so stock up guilt-free.
Cavern Clay
The earthy, sun-kissed, and classic, Sherwin-Williams’ 2019 color of the year is inspired by the American southwest (see first photo below). Let Cavern Clay be the cornerstone of your palette: It’s a flexible hue that pairs just as well with bright pinks and peaches (hello, Living Coral) as it does with muted yellows and cooler shades like Blueprint.
As evidenced by products below, you can decorate a whole home in these shades.
