It’s not the White House, but it’s a presidential pad that can be yours — for less.
An Atoka, Va., home called Wexford — a four-bedroom getaway that famed First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis designed for hubby President John F. Kennedy — has undergone a price cut, according to reports.
It’s now available for $5.95 million, down from its most recent $7.95 million asking price. But compared to its original ask of $10.99 million, when it first hit the market in 2013, this property comes at a 45 percent discount.
Built from the ground up between 1962 and 1963, Wexford — the county in Ireland from where the Kennedy clan hails — cost $127,000 to construct, a pretty penny in those days.
However, the Kennedy family spent just three weekends there. They reportedly made their final visit on Nov. 10, 1963 — roughly two weeks before President Kennedy’s assassination.
Jackie O devoted an incredible amount of attention to this home, from customizing its layout to curating ashtrays for the guest bedrooms, according to a 2015 Quartz story. The proof lies in her letters, notes and photos shared with the construction team that sold for $17,500 at auction in February 2015.
These documents also revealed an additional intent: to build the home to save her marriage. When completed, her husband loved the final result.
“I think we’re going to make it,” she told friend Bill Waxton at a dinner party. “I think we’re going to be a couple. I’ve won.”
The ranch-style 5,050-square-foot home sits on 166 acres of land behind a gated entry. Inside, there’s an eat-in chef’s kitchen, a formal dining room, fireplaces and built-in bookcases.
“This house may not be perfectly proportioned — but it has everything — all the places we need to get away from each other — so husband can have meetings . . . wife paint . . . all things so much bigger houses don’t have,” she wrote, in one of her letters. “I think it’s brilliant!”
Outside, there’s a pool, a tennis court and a stable.
