Micro-Units in NYC

In July 2012 the City of New York launched the adAPT design competition for New York City’s first building of “micro-apartments,” ranging from 250 to 370 square feet. The winner was “My Micro NY,” an innovative structure of 55 micro-units to be built on East 27th Street in Manhattan. This conversation about this innovative project will feature NYC Housing Commissioner Mathew Wambua; City Planning’s Urban Designer Alex Washburn; architect Mimi Hoang of nARCHITECTS, who created the winning design; and Nick Lembo, the winning design’s lead developer. Fred A. Bernstein, architectural critic, will moderate. 6:30 pm. $12. Museum of the City of New York, 1220 Fifth Ave. www.mcny.org

Cocktails and Conversations

Cocktails & Conversations pairs an architect and a critic, journalist, or curator. Of course, it wouldn’t be Friday night without a suitable beverage. A custom drink inspired by the architect’s work was created especially for the occasion. This night’s conversation is between architect Audrey Matlock, FAIA and journalist Jason Sheftell, with cocktails by bartender and author Toby Cecchini. 6:30 pm. $15. The Center for Architecture, 536 LaGuardia Place. More info at www.aiany.org.
