Greenwich Village: The First Bohemia
The first Bohemian neighborhood was Greenwich Village in the 1910s and 20s, when everyone from Edna St. Vincent Millay to John Sloan made “the Village” their hangout. It became so hip and chic that the “bobos” from uptown began flooding the Village, boosting rents and filling new luxury apartment buildings. Rising Currents Boat Tour
The Center for Architecture and MoMA hosts a guided boat tour of the five sites included in MoMA’s exhibition “Rising Currents: Projects for New York’s Waterfront.” Representatives from the five architects-in-residence teams will give overviews of each site, explaining how the solutions on view in the exhibition present new ways to occupy the harbor. Neighborhood Explorers Event
This after-school program teaches students to become active participants in shaping a community by using the principles of architecture, planning and design to solve issues in East Harlem. At this event, the Museum of the City of New York will host the students’ final celebration and showcase their year’s work.
