If you’re thinking of nabbing a sweet summer rental home, you best act fast.
Whether the target area is the Hamptons, the Jersey Shore or upstate New York, this winter’s oddly warm temperatures (not that there’s anything wrong with that) have motivated house hunters to head outdoors and lock in a summer lease on an earlier basis.
“We have seen people looking as early as Thanksgiving and Christmas,” says Cindy Scholz, an agent at Compass who specializes in the Hamptons market. “Oftentimes, it’s difficult. You’re trudging through snow with your boots on.”
Of course, that’s had an impact on available inventory, but don’t panic — you still have great options ripe for the picking. Read on for a look at our favorites.

WILDWOOD, NJ $27,000, MD-LD
AirbnbWarning: this is “not a cookie-cutter” house. A quaint, three-bedroom home, it’s designed for people looking to “relax in a beautiful beach house” — which is a totally wackadoodle notion on the buzzy Shore … in the summer. Have a cup of Joe on the front patio in the morning; dine in the backyard at night amid cooling breezes.

HandoutAt over $1 million for the entire summer, this elegantly shingled Hamptons manse is certainly a splurge. But then again, it’s a veritable compound — with nine bedrooms and 9

There’s another fireplace in the formal dining room, but summer should really be spent outside. There’s an in-ground pool and pool house. The home is set around a series of historic buildings including an original barn that dates back to the Revolutionary War.
