Windsurfer nearly eaten by shark in terrifying video of moment he’s pulled underwater: ‘I thought I was gone for’

An Australian windsurfer was dragged off his board by a shark.

Andy McDonald was out on the Margaret River in Western Australia on Monday when he was suddenly pulled underwater, as seen in incredible footage from the shore.

“Everything was really nice and then just out of the blue — bang,” the 61-year-old veteran surfer told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

He said that something hard and strong hit him “like a freight train,” catapulting him up into the air before he went underwater.

“I knew it was a shark,” he said. “Everything went underwater, myself and all my gear.”

McDonald claimed he punched, kicked and wrestled with the shark, trying to get away from it and hoping none of his limbs were near the creature’s mouth.

“I thought I was gone for,” he shared. “I just thought, this is it — this is the moment that’s the end of my life.”

He couldn’t tell exactly when or where it happened, but eventually the shark relented and dived deeper into the water, ultimately leaving McDonald unscathed.

His board did not fare so well, however — now with a giant, toothy bite taken out of its side.

Luckily, McDonald was able to order a new board, and he’s not going to let the near-death experience stop him from doing what he loves.

“I’ll get back in the water. I’ll go back out tomorrow,” he said.
