Prime Day may have Amazon’s name on it, but make no mistake — practically every major retailer joins the party. Over the years, competitors realized shoppers were already in spending mode, so now the entire internet turns into a battle royale of best deals.

Expect major competing sales from Walmart, Target, Best Buy and Costco, along with markdowns from retailers like Nordstrom, Macy’s and The Home Depot. We’ve also seen direct-to-consumer brands jump in with sitewide discounts timed specifically around Prime Day week, especially in categories like mattresses, beauty, fitness equipment and luggage. In many cases, some competing retailers actually match — or beat! — Amazon’s prices.

Prime Day is the perfect time to buy big-ticket items you’ve been postponing all year, like TVs, laptops, tablets, robot vacuums, air fryers, espresso machines and headphones. Amazon devices like Kindles, Fire TVs, Ring doorbells and Echo speakers also tend to hit their lowest prices of the year during the event.

But seasoned Prime Day shoppers know the best deals often live in the everyday essentials category. Beauty products, skincare, protein powder, household staples, pet supplies and even laundry detergent frequently get deep discounts — the kind that can save you hundreds over time.

How to save the most? Purchase multipurpose appliances or bundle sets that include accessories.

My favorite: beauty deals during Prime Day often feature luxury skincare, hair tools and wellness products from brands like Olaplex, Dyson, Laneige, La Roche-Posay and T3.

It’s a great opportunity to stock up on everyday staples such as sunscreen, moisturizers and electric toothbrushes while also grabbing premium beauty devices at lower prices.

Fashion shoppers will find strong Prime Day discounts on sneakers, basics, handbags and travel accessories from brands like adidas, Levi’s, Calvin Klein, Coach and Ray-Ban.

The best strategy is to focus on timeless wardrobe staples and seasonal essentials, as these items tend to offer the biggest markdowns and year-round value.
