“You want something that will perform under the toughest conditions, but also a pair of boots you wouldn’t mind wearing for a long time,” Jian DeLeon, men’s fashion and editorial director at Nordstrom, told the New York Post. “Snow boots are an investment piece that if taken care of correctly, can last a lifetime.”
One thing to remember is most snow boots tend to run large because of how they’re worn and to account for layering under them, he adds.

What to look for in men’s snow boots, per experts
Ahead, Justin Berkowitz, men’s fashion director at Bloomingdale’s, highlights exactly what to look for in a quality pair of men’s snow boots:
- Rubber lug soles: As it snows as the sidewalks and streets get quite slushy, one of the worst feelings is stepping into a puddle and soaking through your shoe. Look for shoes with a solid rubber lug sole to keep the bottom of your foot dry and give you traction.
- Waterproof treatments on the uppers: These can run the gamut from synthetic fabrics treated with Gore-Tex to leathers and suedes treated with a membrane that seals them off.
- Insulated linings like sherpa, shearling or a light down fill: Simply put, insulation keeps your feet war. Most common types of insulation come through as lining – sherpa, shearling, or some kind of down alternative that helps to trap heat.
“Where things can get the most tricky is where rubber and the upper of the boot meet,” Berkowitz adds. “Look for options that have sealed seams (that waterproof where the upper is stitched to the sole) and gussets under the tongue (which connect the tongue and the shaft of the boot, keeping water out).”
What are the best brands for men’s snow boots?
Best Snow Boot for Men Overall: The North Face Chilkat V 400 WP
The North FaceBlizzards, you’ve met your match in The North Face Chilkat V 400 WP. Designed with super-warm Heatseeker Eco insulation, the snow boots for men are warm and reasonably light (under 4 pounds), so wearing them won’t put much strain on ankles and calves. They’re higher than The North Face Chilkat V Zip, which is also an excellent snow boot but not our favorite if you’re hit with more than 6 inches of the white stuff.
The Chillkat V 400 WP is also waterproof, offers excellent traction, and is reasonably easy to slip on and off with its pull tabs and front lace hooks. Bottom line: it’s a durable, insulated and good-looking boot that should keep feet protected for more than a few winters.

Best Waterproof Snow Boots for Men: Muck Men’s Arctic Sport Muck Boots
L.L. BeanThere are variations of Muck’s Men’ Artic Muck Boot but the mid-calf sport is a particular favorite of shopping editors. Here’s why: it’s not too tall, not too short; it’s 100% waterproof and extremely protective in slushy, cold weather. Although it looks heavy, its interior has a breathable airmesh to keep feet from profusely sweating. It’s fleece-lined, so you can expect to be warm enough to skip the wool socks. They’re not the most pliable boots, however, there is thermal foam in the in-step that provides an extra layer of protection from the cold ground.
What customers are saying: “Best winter boots there are for all your outdoor needs from mucking to tramping in the muck. Everyone in the family has a pair and we’ll be lifetime customers.”

Best Men’s Boots for Snow and Ice: Kamik Men’s Nation Plus Boot
AmazonWhether you need snow boots for shoveling your driveway or building snow forts with the kiddos, the Kamik Men’s Nation Plus Boot will keep your feet dry and warm. Built with HEAT-MX insulation, they’re ideal for when temperatures drop below 32 Fahrenheit and you need extra protection. The thick rubber bottom offers excellent traction on ice, while the leather upper is created from a tannery rated gold for its sustainable practices.
What customers are saying: “I was very pleased with the comfort of these boots. They fit well and keep my feet warm and dry. I might wish the top eyelet or two were speed lace grommets instead, but it’s a tiny thing to complain about. Very happy with the fit and construction.”

Best Lightweight Snow Boot for Men: Columbia Men’s Fairbanks Omni-Heat 200g Waterproof Winter Boots
Dick's Sporting GoodsWe like the Columbia Men’s Fairbanks Omni-Heat 200g Waterproof Winter Boots for days you think it may snow but aren’t quite sure. They’re lightweight with a flexible upper but have two forms of heat technology (Omni-Tech and Omni-Heat) to keep feet insulated as the temperature drops. While we don’t love them for heavy-duty snow storms, they’re durable enough that if you find yourself trudging home in an inch of snow, you’ll feet will be covered — literally.
What customers are saying: “[Warm, waterproof and comfy]. Fit great, can wear them all day and still feel great. Got them for the rainy season (I hope) here in Northern California. Like other Columbia gear, they are first-rate. And like other Columbia gear, made overseas, so get them now before the tariffs hit.”

Best Everyday Snow Boots: Blundstone Men’s All-Terrain Thermal Chelsea Boots
BlundstoneIf you’re seeking a solid snow boot for work, we highly recommend this pick from Blundstone. Armed with the brand’s iconic pull tab, the Men’s All-Terrain Thermal Chelsea Boot is a blend of stylish and rugged, making it an ideal option for places where traditional snow boots have no place in. The leather exterior is waterproof to maintain the shoe’s luster during snow showers, while the Vibram outsole grips against wet surfaces. It’s self-cleaning, too, minimizing tracking when you get into the office. Lined with Thinsulate, the lightweight boots are surprisingly warm, which is another reason they’re worth checking out.
What customers are saying: “Living in Montana, U.S. and winters can be brutal — so, I’m beyond happy with these boots. Feet are dry and warm in the snow. [I replaced] the Sherpa liner with a Superfeet insole for more support during long days on my feet but would absolutely purchase again!”

Best Men’s Boots for Rain and Snow: Sorel Caribou Men’s Waterproof Boot
SorelThe Sorel Caribou Men’s Waterproof Boot is an optimal choice if you’re seeking something durable enough to block out snow slush and rain. The vulcanized rubber shell with its aero-trac non-loading outsole makes it exceptional on icy surfaces, though the overall weight of the boot does make it harder to be nimble on your feet. Although there are other snow boots we like better for higher pile falls, this choice from Sorel can’t be beaten when walking through puddles, small, half-frozen snow banks, and other slushy spots. They’re ideal for urban dwellers and those who’ll venture out when the weatherman calls for five inches or less.
Size options: 7-17 | Color options: Available in four colors on Amazon
Best Insulated Snow Boot for Men: UGG Butte
UGGIf you only know UGGs for its slipper-like boots, you may be surprised to find the brand in our roundup. However, the UGG Butte is much more durable than its cozy, indoor counterparts and amazing for snow. The waterproof design and grooved tread is not only good for trekking across the iciest terrain but speeding down slick subway steps — tho we don’t recommend the latter for safety’s sake. We love the overall look of the boot but do warn that they may be difficult to keep clean, especially the fur collar portion. Regardless, the winter boot will keep feet toasty in weather you probably have no business being in.

I’ve tried countless brands and styles over the years, but nothing seemed to work—until I tried the NORTIV 8 Men’s A0014 Brown/Black Insulated Waterproof Construction Hiking Winter Snow Boots…Right out of the box, I was impressed with the fit.
