Throughout my life, I’ve experimented with countless hair products in hopes of finding a solution that works with my fine and overly processed hair. I’ve tried everything from the best beauty products on Amazon to hair sprays that lock your hair into place, giving every last dollar in my wallet to anything that promises to hydrate and repair my fine locks.
My hair and I have a love-hate relationship. It has been damaged, fried, and colored more times than I care to remember. In short, it needs some TLC.
Recently, I decided to give WOW’s Dream Coat a shot, hoping to achieve the elusive dream of glossy, glass-like hair that remains impervious to frizz even amid a downpour or even a Seattle mist.
If your hair already has a lot of curls to it, fear not; Color Wow also made a frizz-free amidst curls Dream Coat version so everyone walks away with fabulous hair.
I no longer use knowingly harmful ingredients when possible. WOW is free of toxic sulfates and cruelty-free, so you can rest easy when applying any of their products and works on everything from curly, wavy to straight.
To my delight (spoiler alert) I was so impressed with the results that I started buying up all of their products. I have slowly replaced my hair routine with Money Masque, Dream Coat, Color Control Purple Toning + Styling Foam, and many more that are worth every penny.
Chris Appleton, the celebrity hairstylist for Kim Kardashian, Ariana Grande, Katy Perry, and more, endorses these products but also uses them on a daily basis for his star-studded clients…I can see why after trying them. Not to brag, but thanks to my new hair routine, I think my hair could enter a competition with any one of these celebrities and win.

Best Overall: Dream Coat Supernatural Spray
COLOR WOW Pros:
- Fights humidity
- Adds shine
- Sulfate-,paraben-,gluten-free
Cons:
- Must apply generously
Spray this product generously all over your damp (not wet) hair, it will help create a glass-like appearance and fight humidity. The product is activated by heat and is best if the heat is focused in small sections with a brush. This spray doubles as a heat protectant so you’re basically purchasing a 2-for-1.
I made the mistake of trying to save money with each little spray and I found if I wanted the promised silky, frizz-free results that’ll last three to four washes, then apply everywhere. While it may seem counterintuitive, write this on your mirror as a reminder: proper application yields stunning results.
Suitable for all hair types, including treated hair like color-treated, Brazilian-treated, or Keratin-treated hair, as well as for those with gluten sensitivities.
Best Shampoo: Color Security Shampoo
COLOR WOW Pros:
- Weightless
- Residue-free
- Sulfate-,paraben-free
Cons:
- Not gluten-free
This weightless color protectant shampoo stands out for its unique ability to cleanse thoroughly, leaving your hair sparkling clean. You can literally feel the difference in every strand. I’m amazed by how it achieves this without stripping away healthy oils yet effectively removes buildup, all while preserving the vibrancy of my colored locks without any waxy residue.
Most shampoos strip away the color, but this specialized formula keeps the cuticle closed with eight non-stripping cleansers and keeps color from fading even after 20 washes. I can personally vouch for its effectiveness, having transformed my natural brunette hair into a stunning bombshell blonde.
Enriched with Japanese amino acids, this shampoo protects strands against breakage from daily activities such as brushing or pulling them into a ponytail. When applied, the amino acid gives it a whipped and creamy lathered texture that feels silky smooth.
Best Conditioner: Color Security Conditioner
COLOR WOW Pros:
- Sulfate-,paraben-,gluten-free
- Contains 3 types of heat protection
Cons:
- None I can speak to
My new favorite conditioner also won’t oxidize my blonde strands, so I’m worry-free from orange, brassy hair. Plus, its nourishing aron oil enhances shine and detangles my hair, all in a wash. It adds to my shine, the brand suggests using it before applying Dream Coat for ultimate shine without silicones and other unnecessary coatings that block your follicles and prevent additional products from working effectively.
You can kiss dullness goodbye as it has three different types of thermal protection fighting dehydration. Finally, my strands no longer look parched, and it counteracts flyaways and neutralizes static charge — an absolute game changer.
Best Hair Mask:Chris Appleton + Color Wow Money Masque
COLOR WOW Pros:
- My hair has never looked so healthy
- Restores and strengthens elasticity
- Adds shine
- Sulfate-,paraben-,gluten-free
Cons:
- None I can speak to
If your hair looks fried, this product will cure all your problems. After I applied this to my bleached white strands, it looked richly conditioned and felt weightless.
Appleton told Allure, “I knew I wanted it to be a singular mask that would create optimal texture for styling hair so it appears and feels amazing in the finished style.”
Apply to your hair after shampooing and gently squeeze out the excess water to allow it to penetrate effectively. Leave on for three to twenty minutes before rinsing out and proceeding with blow-drying or air-drying your hair. It’s recommended to use it once a week or after every three washes to maintain your hair’s shine and health.
The results are astounding; my hair looks as if my previously damaged strands were simply erased. Now that’s a real WOW factor.
Best Purple Toner: Color Control Purple Toning + Styling Foam
COLOR WOW Pros:
- Gentle on your hair without stripping natural oils
- Removes brassiness and yellow undertones
Cons:
- Not great if you overuse
This magical lavender foam maintains your salon-perfect hair color without compromising its vibrancy until your next appointment. Unlike other products, it doesn’t interfere with your expensive hair color, which I have found to be the case with other competitors. Many purple shampoos tend to strip hair of essential oils, leaving it dry and brittle, but this lavender-tinted foam offers a different experience.
Applied to freshly clean, damp, or dry hair, it effectively corrects and tones brassiness without altering your hair color. According to Wow, the brassier your hair, the drier it should be when applying the foam for optimal penetration and elimination of yellow or brassy tones. I apply the foam before styling, and it doesn’t affect the final outcome of my desired look.
For brunettes, Wow offers the Color Control Blue Toning + Styling Foam, which effectively prevents orange undertones, providing the same quality results.
Best for Flyaways: Pop + Lock Frizz Control + Glossing Serum
COLOR WOW Pros:
- Tackles fly aways
- Leaves hair shiny
- Heat protectant
Cons:
- None I can speak to
I have broken strands that fly away easily and pop up at the root even after styling. This Pop + Lock Frizz Control + Glossing Serum smooths them down without looking greasy. It has a tacky, velvety-like texture that I pump into my hand and glide over my hair wherever needed.
Many times, I opt for a chic chignon and use this serum all over after styling, but it can also be applied to wet hair for a hydrated, glossy feel all over. Suitable for all hair types, it combats frizz and split ends by sealing the cuticle.
Wow incorporates ethylhexyl salicylate to shield your hair from harmful UV rays, ensuring your color remains unchanged. It’s always the finishing touch to my hair routine and a valuable addition to your haircare arsenal.
Best for Strengthening Hair:Dream Cocktail Kale-Infused Leave-in Treatment
COLOR WOW Pros:
- Strengthens fragile hair up to 50% after one use
- Weightless
Cons:
- You need three different Dream Cocktails to strengthen your hair, expand fine hair, and create shine
WOW offers a range of Dream Cocktail Leave-in Treatments, each catering to specific hair needs. Their coconut-infused formula provides hydration and enhances shine, while their TikTok viral carb-infused formula is ideal for adding volume to fine, thin hair—both options are tempting. However, my priority was addressing breakage, making the kale-infused treatment my top choice.
Dispense the desired amount into your palm and distribute evenly through damp, freshly washed hair, starting about an inch below the roots and working down to the ends. Despite its nourishing properties, it won’t weigh your hair down. Once activated by heat from a blow dryer, it provides vital protection for fragile strands. In fact, Wow conducted a clinical trial revealing that after just one use, it strengthens your hair by up to 50%!
Best for Saving Time: Speed Dry Blow-Dry Spray
COLOR WOW Pros:
- Saves time
- No alcohol is used, so your hair remains hydrated
Cons:
- None
Honestly, there is nothing I hate more than wasting time—truly. Time is a precious commodity that is worth protecting at all costs. At first, I thought this was a brand excuse to sell and take my money, but I decided to purchase it because I was desperate to gain a few extra minutes in my life. I promised myself to try it at least once, only it worked like a dream.
Typically, drying my hair takes a good ten minutes, but with this spray, it was done in just three! That’s an extra seven minutes to savor a cup of coffee, indulge in a book, or simply take my time with everything else.
This cutting-edge technology extracts excess water from your hair without resorting to alcohol, unlike many other competitors. Retaining all that gorgeous hydration in every lock minimizes the risk of damaging your hair while blow-drying.
Best Shine Spray: Extra Mist-ical Shine Spray
COLOR WOW Pros:
- Creates extreme shine
- Quick and easy to apply
- Sulfate-,paraben-,gluten-,cruelty-free
- Provides heat protection
Cons:
- Doesn’t hold like hairspray
This vegan spray is an all-gloss, no-grease miracle for a quick-fix glow-up. Mullein, a flowering plant naturally incorporated into the formula, harnesses the power of invisible UV light and converts it to radiant shine.
It might appear magical, yet its effectiveness is firmly rooted in science. It dispenses as a fine mist and smells like flowers. Moreover, your hair will remain easily brushable while retaining its texture. What’s not to love?

Best for Curly :Flo-etry Vital Natural Curly Hair Serum

Best Hair Color Extender: Root Cover-Up
COLOR WOW Pros:
- Easy to apply
- Multiple shades available
Cons:
- Not permanent
This is perhaps the most affordable option for extending the life of your colored hair or touching up those pesky grays you’re not ready to confront. It’s easy to apply and coat onto the roots with a flexible brush. Available in multiple shades, it can help you manage an awkward root grow-out with ease.

I absolutely love testing out new hair products! Experimenting with different ones allows me to easily switch up my look and achieve a transformative makeover every time I wash my hair.
- Residue levels: I wanted to assess whether my hair was accumulating wax or silicones. None of these products weighed down my hair, left it greasy, or stripped away my natural oils.
- How it held: My style stayed in place all day long and even kept a blowout look for several days
- Thoughtful ingredients: No harmful toxins were used to formulate these products. They actually improved my damaged hair and made it stronger.
