Perhaps it’s the elder millennial in me or just a side effect of being over 40, but I’ve become a deeply nostalgic person as I’ve gotten older.

I love anything that takes me back to my childhood in the ’80s and ’90s, and I treasure everything I still have from that time. Photos and home movies fuel those feelings more than any old toy or retro video game ever can.

But as technology advances and people move around, a lot of those memories get lost.

With that in mind, back in early 2020, I set out to digitize my family’s VHS tapes and photos with Legacybox. I wanted to always have them backed up if we ever lose the originals. I sent in dozens of photos and 15 VHS tapes covering everything from my Bar Mitzvah to my high school video yearbook. It was a treasure trove of cringe ’90s fashion and thick Staten Island accents…and I love every second of it!

Legacybox

The process couldn’t be easier. First, you select a kit. The most basic package is for up to two items, and the largest package allows you to digitize up to 80 items. They send you a box that varies in size depending on which package you choose, and then you fill the box with the tapes, photos, audio, and film from your collection. Once they receive your items, they start the digitization process and keep you updated on any issues they encounter in the process. Once the conversion part is complete, they ship your media back to you and send any links, drives, or discs you requested for your order. In total, the process took about a month from the day I received my box to fill to the day everything arrived back to me.

The Legacybox digitization kits are the perfect gift for anyone in your life who has a lot of old photos or videos that are on the verge of going the way of the dodo now that we live in a digital world. And lucky for you, the brand is running its best deal of the year right now with up to 60% off digitization kits.

My most treasured memories are now at my fingertips.
My most treasured memories are now at my fingertips.

Truthfully, I’m still blown away by how easy it all was and how 40+ years of memories can be reduced down to a jump drive no bigger than my finger. When I say that this is one of the best things I’ve ever done for myself and my family, it still feels like an understatement. If you have any old media collecting dust somewhere in your house, the greatest gift you can give yourself and your loved ones is a way to hold onto these memories in this rapidly changing technological landscape.
