With January quickly approaching, we’re nearing the time when millions of Americans are searching for the best fitness products on Amazon, buying new smart scales and scouring to complete their home gyms.

With so many pieces of workout equipment on the market — from treadmills and elliptical machines to exercise bikes and rowing machines — there’s much to consider when investing in a new fitness buddy. But, we have the solution.

The brand-new Hydrow Wave of Colors rowing machine is 100% worth the buy, New York Post Shopping-tested and approved.

The brand’s newest launch came right before the holidays to buy for the fitness lover you know (or, for yourself — because you deserve it).

The Hydrow Wave of Colors rowing machine comes on the heels of the recently launched Hydrow Wave Rower, only this time, it’s available in a rich variety of fun colors that’ll make your small walk-up apartment have a bit more pizzazz.

Hydrow Wave of Colors, $1,795

How the Hydrow Wave of Colors differs? It’s a lighter rower that’s 30% smaller and more compact than the brand’s original model. What’s more, it’s at a more accessible price point.

Because I’m all about fitness — from matching workout sets to trying new fitness platforms — I was beyond thrilled to test out the Hydrow Wave of Colors. It shipped directly to my brother’s apartment in New Jersey (I really wanted to see for myself if it’s apt for small spaces), and I was pleased with just about everything this new launch has to offer.

How we tested

Since this is a new launch, I’ve only been able to test the Hydrow Wave of Colors for a week. But, I have a thorough understanding of how the rowing machine measures up to others I’ve tried (at the gym, this is my favorite machine!) and kept the following review criteria in mind:

  • Ease of use: With any workout equipment, it has to be easy to use or I don’t want to use it. I looked at everything from the way it was constructed to how the controls and settings played out.
  • Level of resistance: For beginners and advanced fitness users alike, I want to make sure this workout equipment is adjustable and versatile for everyone. I looked at different workout options.
  • Unique features: If there’s a hot new rower on the market for more than $1,000, it better have unique features to be a great value. For anything impressive that caught my eye, I took note.

How much does a Hydrow rower cost?

The brand-new Hydrow Wave of Colors is $1,995, but there’s also a monthly membership fee of $38 for on-demand, well-varied workouts. You can also pre-pay for a one-year membership ($456).

Though a splurge, the membership is applied per machine. In other words, with a single membership account, you can create multiple profiles for everyone in your home.

Its features and on-demand classes make it worth the investment, leading us to its specs and unique features.

Hydrow Wave of Colors Unique Features

The Hydrow Wave of Colors takes ‘small but mighty’ to a whole new level. Not only does it give a great workout that you’ll feel in your arms, legs and glutes but there are unique features that only this rower boasts:

  • It’s perfect for small spaces: No more having to worry about needing a large home gym to store workout equipment. With the Hydrow Wave of Colors, it can also be stored upright, making it a flexible solution for those living in small spaces or who want to transform their gym to a living room when entertaining.
  • It’s expert-led classes are well-varied and fun: When first testing out the Hydrow Wave of Colors, I was overwhelmed (in a good way) with the amount of classes and the variety of classes. From 90s throwback rows to lower body-focused workouts, you’ll never become bored of this machine.
  • It’s front-facing speakers make for an immersive experience: Though I row in an apartment, the fact that the brand-new Hydrow Wave of Colors has front-facing speakers make it feel as if I’m actually rowing in a lake. It adds to the experience tenfold.
  • It’s quiet and stationary: Especially if your rowing machine is living at an apartment, you want something that won’t disturb your neighbors. I placed a workout mat underneath (though optional) and was impressed that it doesn’t make noise when you ‘stroke’ back and forth.
  • It’s seat is comfortable: I didn’t feel like my booty was getting sore when rowing on the Hydrow Wave of Colors past the 10-mark, and even at the 30-minute mark. I could binge-watch a Netflix show and row all day, truly.
  • It’sathlete-led: I don’t know what I was expecting, but it added so much to the experience to have professional rowers lead the classes. This piggybacks off the brand’s slogan: “Hydrow doesn’t just pull you in — it welcomes you with open arms.”

Hydrow Workouts

Hydrow’s immersive live outdoor reality experience is like no other, and is the second best thing to signing up for professional rowing classes and joining the Olympics. There are plenty of scenic destinations and stunning waterways that will boost your mood (oh, and then there are the endorphins that’ll also boost your mood, so Hydrow is a double-win).

There are more than 4,000 rowing, yoga, Pilates, strength and mobility training workouts, so you’re getting more than just a simple row and maneuver-style workout.

Uniquely, Hydrow has an equal commitment to bringing you not just a physical health boost but a mental health boost as well. Its ‘Yoga and Awareness’ catalog is similar to Headspace (which I also reviewed) in that it prioritizes a full-body mindset shift to feel good.

The bottom line

With the Hydrow Wave of Colors (which comes in aqua blue, forest green, mustard yellow, bright orange and signature black,) has been one of my favorite items to review yet. I can’t wait to continue using it and watching myself grow, improve and tone.

With its space-saving design, bright colorways and versatile programs, it’s a splurge worth making for any fitness user.
