TL;DR: I’m making it my mission in 2025 to reduce the amount of subscriptions I have, and I’m starting by switching my Microsoft 365 plan for Microsoft Office since it’s only $34.97 (reg. $229) for life.
I can’t be the only one fed up with subscription fees—they’re low-key criminal. They add up way more quickly than you’d think they would, and honestly, the more I think about it, the more I realize I’m actually renting the stuff I think is actually mine.
So, I’ve made it my mission in 2025 to eliminate a few of my subscriptions, starting with my productivity apps! I’ve had Microsoft 365 forever, but the yearly $70 is a little ridiculous, especially since I can just own my productivity apps forever with this Microsoft Office lifetime license. It’s now price-dropped to only $34.97 (reg. $229) through February 2.
Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2019 for Windows

It’s only been a little while since I’ve upgraded my tools, but here’s why I’m obsessed with this upgrade:
- It comes with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, Publisher, and Access.
- Unlike Microsoft 365, these apps will never randomly change their appearance.
- I never have to pay a subscription again for my apps. Yup, there are NO recurring subscription fees!

Since this Microsoft Office download doesn’t rely on the cloud and lives directly on my PC, I can always access Word—even when I’m offline. I’ll be able to type up a report or edit a slideshow mid-flight or car ride since WiFi isn’t necessary!
I’ll be completely transparent: there are newer, more advanced versions of Microsoft Office, but they’re more expensive. I decided to opt for this older version since my work needs are pretty basic. Also, I’m not a huge fan of Microsoft Office 2024’s AI integrations. I’m old-school that way.
