No need to brood or worry about the upcoming cicada season.
Brood X of cicadas is set to hatch this week after 17 years spent underground and will infiltrate 14 states from New York and New Jersey down to Georgia, bringing with them a steady hum heard all down the east coast.
The bad news is that these noisy buggers can disturb the peace of your neighborhood — both with their constant humming and with their sheer numbers that have already forced some restaurants and businesses to close or adjust their service.
The good news though, is that for the most part, the blood-red-eyed bugs are harmless to humans and tend to want to spend their time outside, frantically coupling up and repopulating after a 17-year dry spell. However, if they do make their way into your home or take over your patio furniture as their new love shack, we have some suggestions to keep them from bugging you.
Here are some of the best products to keep the peace in your yard, allowing the cicadas to have their moment of glory after so long underground and yourself to have a bug-free home.

AmazonA good chore to get done anyway, patching your screens in your window and doors is a great idea before cicada season.
These patches from Amazon are an easy option if you have just a few holes in the screen and a hairdryer handy. Simply place the patch over the tear and then hold a hot hairdryer over the patch for about 60 seconds, sealing the hole shut and keeping cicadas out.

AmazonProtect your trees and shrubs from the mating cicadas with mesh netting from Amazon.
The nets can be easily installed and then removed after cicada season, complete with a drawstring that can be tightened and opened back up again with ease.
