If I were getting divorced, I’d have the Sleep Number ClimateCool bed written into my Property Settlement Agreement. I’ve never slept better in my life.
Plus, right now you can shop up to 50% off Sleep Number during their clearance sale.
According to the brand, nine out of 10 couples report better sleep quality when using a smart bed than a non-smart bed, and my husband and I are definitely one of them.
But alas, I’m getting ahead of myself. We recently decided to upgrade to a King bed from our Queen-sized bed. Why? Because we made the mistake of letting our 50-pound Mini Sheepadoodle sleep between us. For a dog, it only takes one time to create a habit.
Emma Sutton-WilliamsWe purchased an entry-level Sleep Number seven years ago, but it did not have all the cooling features; it only had air pressure adjustments that varied firmness on both sides — still pretty incredible. That made a huge difference, as I enjoyed a softer bed than my partner did.
But nowadays I suffer from perimenopausal symptoms, which include hot flashes in the middle of the night, oddly exactly at 3 a.m. The Sleep Number ClimateCool smart bed has a literal fan (dynamic airflow system) built into the top layer that can be set on a timer and pop on your sleep schedule, with a different setting each day of the week depending on your needs.
My colleague, Victoria McDonnell, tried a Sleep Number mattresses review of the C2 Bed and loved it for couples with differing sleep preferences, thanks to the air chambers. You can read her full review, but I’d say mine was the Mercedes version as we requested a FlexiTop, which can raise your partner in bed without bothering the other as they sleep flat.
Sleep Number ClimateCool Bed
Sleep NumberPros:
- This Sleep Number cooling bed includes a 15-year warranty
- Sheets designed for the bed by Sleep Number have ultra-deep pockets that fit over all the extra layers designed into the mattress
- The best customer service I’ve ever experienced
- I no longer take sleeping pills to sleep at night because the mattress places me in such a deep rest mode — I’ve never slept better in my life until using this bed
Cons:
- If you purchase a FlexiTop, you’ll need to buy specific sheets that can only be sold at Sleep Number. However, the quality is the highest I’ve seen from testing sheets, so it’s not a bad con
- No returns or exchanges on the FlexFit 2 smart adjustable base sold with ClimateCool smart bed, so the Sleep Number 100-night trial does not apply here
- Delivery past a 3-floor walk-up may be tricky using their 3rd party delivery service
The Sleep Number Smart Bed has a host of features designed for personalized comfort and better sleep. Its dynamic airflow system allows you to control cooling, while multiple layers with four times more ceramic gel rapidly draw heat away to keep your temperatures balanced throughout the night. The breathable sleep surface releases excess heat for added comfort, and plush layers provide superior pressure relief, easing tension at key points. Each side of the bed features adjustable firmness, so couples with different preferences can both enjoy their ideal Sleep Number setting.
The bed uses AI-powered technology to track your biometrics and sleep patterns, providing personalized insights to help you get better sleep every night.
I got the King-Sized FlexiTop (72 x 84), which you can save $2,049.80 for a limited time with their holiday special. Sleep Number bed prices vary by size.
This mattress is available with three base options: Integrated Base, Integrated Base & Frame, or the FlexFit 2 Smart Base with head and foot adjustability, partner snore, under-bed lighting, smart device control, and Zero Gravity.
I chose the FlexFit 2 Smart Base because it is the only option for the bed I purchased to access all these features. I prefer the FlexiFit over the Split because of the crack that goes all the way down the bed in a split, whereas the FlexiFit is just near the head to prop you up.
Plus, the bed is HSA/FSA eligible for qualified customers.

My Sleep Number Bed Review of the ClimateCool Smart Bed
If you’ve ever worn an Oura Ring, you know how it tracks your health throughout the day. This mattress has similar technology; it understands your body, but all from the comfort of your bed.
This is one of the top-of-the-line models, and yes, it feels like a ridiculous splurge. I get it, but hear me out. I haven’t been sleeping well for several years, which I assumed was because of getting older. But sleep can be impacted for many reasons: stress, you marry a snorer, or… hot flashes.
We all need better ways to sleep, and Sleep Number is the answer.
From the very first night on this mattress, everything changed. I no longer woke up to pee; I woke up blissfully without having to take sleeping pills (something I’ve been doing for two to three years), and my husband doesn’t snore as much as he used to because I can raise him with the app’s “Snore” setting.
In retrospect, I wish I had splurged on the remote, because fumbling for my phone in the middle of the night can be annoying. But at the same time, isn’t it amazing that your phone is your remote?
And if you do get up at night, the lights at the base pop on, illuminating your way until you return. Once back in bed, they shut off. It’s kind of magical and just one of the many thoughtful features Sleep Number includes.
Simply download the app to control all the bed’s features, track your sleep patterns and more.
Sleep Number Smart Bed App Set Up
Once you download the Sleep Number app, you’ll create a login and play with a list of settings:
Emma Sutton-WilliamsThere are so many unique features, the cooling being a splurge that can be switched on. In the picture, you can set the timer for how long you prefer it to run, and see how to set a cooling schedule in the SmartTemp Program.
Sleep Number is unique because of its adjustable air chamber, which lets you rotate from your back to your side and provides some give to support your shoulders so you’re not sore in the morning.
As I’ve become older, I prefer a firm mattress, and with any of these beds, the firmness level can be adjusted. Over the last few nights, I’ve been sleeping on a 75- to 100-firmness mattress, but my husband prefers the 75 range these days.
In the morning, you can check your sleep score to see when you were in restful sleep and when you were restless, and how long it took to fall asleep. It’ll also log a history of your sleep schedule so you can watch how you progress.
There are buttons on the sides of the base for the user to easily hit for their favorite setup. Mine is adjusted to lie flat, so when I’m propped up in bed to read, and I want to turn out the lights, all I need to do is push the button instead of reaching for my phone.
Construction
The mattress has layers of gel foam infused with ceramic to provide both support and a refreshing, cooling feel. Instead of traditional springs, it uses air chambers that adjust firmness and temperature to suit you.
I tried Sleep Number sheets made from lightweight, moisture-wicking lyocell fibers, and the whole system does a great job of pulling warm air away from your body for personalized temperature control while you sleep. The sheets are also OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100-tested and certified free of over 1,000 harmful substances.
As a shopping writer, I’ve tested a ton of sheets, and these, along with Cozy Earth bamboo sheets, are my top two favorites. One thing to note: if you go with the FlexiTop mattress, you can’t use a bottom sheet from another brand because of its unique cut.
If you want extra firm support around your head or something between your legs, Sleep Number has a range of durable pillows that strike a nice balance between firmness and give. I tried the True Temp Plush pillow set and found it perfect for hugging at night. They also offer a soft fiberfill option with a cool-touch cover for those who prefer something lighter.
Cooling
As I’ve mentioned earlier, I really wanted this bed for its cooling feature to help me sleep through hot flashes. It activates a cooling system that actually pulls warm air away from your body, creating a personalized sleep microclimate rather than relying only on cool-to-the-touch materials.
Inside the mattress, ceramic-infused gel foam and a breathable cover help dissipate heat. At the same time, an internal airflow system draws heat out to keep the surface up to about 15 degrees Fahrenheit cooler.
Each side of the bed can be cooled independently, and the connected app can automatically adjust temperatures through the night based on your sleep patterns.
Pressure Relief and Motion Transfer
In terms of pressure relief, Sleep Number beds use adjustable air chambers beneath their foam layers, allowing you to customize firmness on each side so you can dial in the right balance of cushioning and support for your hips, shoulders, or back.
This makes their pressure relief good, especially for side sleepers or anyone who needs targeted softness but not quite as deep or contouring as a thick memory-foam mattress.
Motion transfer is also better than a traditional spring mattress since there are no coils, and the air chambers help minimize some movement between partners.
However, because the support system is air-based rather than dense foam, you may still feel a bit more motion than you would on a high-end memory-foam bed.
Overall, you get solid pressure relief and decent motion isolation, but not the total zero-movement feel of an all-foam mattress.
Physical Set Up
Emma Sutton-WilliamsI live in a five-story walk-up with a spiral staircase inside the apartment. Before delivery, Sleep Number asks about your home and whether there are stairs. I provided a detailed layout of our unique New York apartment because, like many city dwellers, we sacrificed convenience for location. We gave up an elevator building and now climb to the top of a brownstone every night, and I love every crumbling brick of my 100-year-old building.
That choice comes with some challenges. Our mattress and bed couldn’t fit through the spiral staircase, so it had to go over the neighbor’s fence from the patio into our bedroom. I explained all of this in detail before the delivery team arrived.

When the team is on their way, you get a text when they’re about 10 minutes out, and then another when they arrive.
When they got here, we hit a snag. The third-party team wasn’t contractually allowed to go past three flights of stairs due to union rules. Somewhere along the line, there was a miscommunication — and a small cash “incentive” per guy was needed to persuade them to go five flights instead of three.
I offered to lift the mattress over the fence myself, planning for the team to finish the setup once it was in the bedroom. They refused, not wanting to wait an extra 10 minutes.
So, my husband and I ended up putting the bed together ourselves that night. It was tricky figuring out how everything connected, even with the setup video Sleep Number sent. The video felt outdated and way too simple compared to the reality of putting it together.
I wasn’t confident we’d done it correctly; there was a noticeable gap between the head of the bed and the base. Sleep Number’s customer service quickly arranged for a new team to come out. After a few days, the same team that delivered our bed returned to complete the setup.
I don’t blame Sleep Number for this. It’s tough to find third-party delivery services in certain regions. As a longtime New Yorker, I know nothing is ever easy in this city. You just roll with the challenges. That said, for the price of this bed, I hope Sleep Number considers improving the delivery experience, especially since many buildings have more than five flights of stairs.
Despite all the hurdles, I’d do it all over again. I’ve never slept better in the last 20 years.
Although there are automated emails for every task from Sleep Number, I worked with a lovely woman named Jeanise, who emailed me confirmation of the delivery and followed up afterwards, allowing me to explain all my issues. She worked hard to find me a date earlier than the online calendar showed and sent me videos via email to build the bed myself.
I’m sure this wasn’t ideal for anyone involved, but Jeanise handled it supremely well. Thanks, Jeanise!
Shipping & Warranty
Delivery varies depending on where you live, but is clearly outlined in your receipt along with a list of options for white-glove service.
If you choose the Ultimate Delivery option or purchase additional service with Premium Delivery, the brand will relocate a single mattress and/or base to another room within the same home. However, this excludes moving non-Sleep Number bases.
Typically, Sleep Number offers a 100-day sleep trial. However, this does not apply to a FlexiTop bed, where all sales are final. I strongly encourage you to find a testing room near you to try it firsthand before making the plunge online.
Once you own the FlexiTop, you’ll get a 15-year warranty, which outlives the standard lifespan of a mattress, typically at 7 to 10 years, according to the Sleep Foundation.
Emma Sutton-WilliamsFinal Verdict: Is ClimateCool Smart Bed Worth It?
Yes, I know it’s a high price point for a bed, but when you consider how much time we spend sleeping, it really starts to feel like a wise investment. Better sleep means feeling better and happier days.
Despite a slight hiccup with delivery, the entire package was worth it. There’s now plenty of room for all of us on the bed. My dog still stretches out between us, but there’s enough space for everyone to get legroom and covers.
Amazingly, there’s even room for our side tables. We completed the setup with a new comforter from Wayfair in blackwatch plaid, which really adds to the holiday vibe. Something worth investing in, as it takes up most of the room, comforters are a nice way to make the room feel festive and bright.
I can’t imagine buying a bed from anywhere else now. I’ll happily scrimp and save to get the sleep I need because quality rest is worth every d*mn penny.
We’ve written about the best places to buy a mattress online, the best cooling and the best deals for tentpole events, but never have I ever slept on anything as good as this bed.
How We Tested It
I (and my husband) put the Sleep Number ClimateCool bed to the test for over a month, rigorously exploring every feature, from adjustable firmness to the cooling system and FlexiTop elevation.
Each night, I tracked my sleep quality, temperature regulation, and pressure relief, while my husband adjusted his side independently to match his comfort preferences.
We experimented with different firmness levels, cooling schedules, and even the Zero Gravity setting to see how it impacted restless nights, hot flashes and snoring.
By the end of the month, it was clear that both of us were sleeping more deeply, waking up less during the night and feeling genuinely refreshed in the morning, a true testament to the bed’s smart technology and personalized comfort.
Other Sleep Number Products We Love
True Temp Plush Mattress Layer
Sleep NumberPros:
- Actively wicks away heat and humidity, significantly reducing the need for external fans
- The cool-touch cover and fiberfill provide an instant, soothing sensation the moment you lie down
- Offers a high-end new mattress feel at a fraction of the cost of a full replacement
Cons:
- It’s not going to be a full replacement for a new mattress, as it doesn’t help with firmeness but it’s a nice add-on and temporary fix if you’re not ready to buy a new mattress
I spent a few months sleeping on my mattress before deciding to add this plush cover, mostly just wondering if it could make my bed feel a bit more luxurious. To my surprise, it didn’t just add comfort; it completely transformed the quality of my sleep. The cover is specifically designed to move heat and humidity away from your body, and combined with the plush fiberfill and cool-touch fabric, it creates a remarkably soothing environment.
What I appreciate most is that it adds a much-needed layer of cushion while still maintaining the underlying firmness my back requires to stay pain-free. The temperature regulation is the most impressive part, though. I actually have a fan installed in my bed, but I’ve found myself needing it less and less. In fact, over the last month, I haven’t turned the fan on a single time because this topper has managed my body heat so effectively on its own.
This has made a massive difference in my daily life. If you aren’t in the financial place where you can swing a brand-new mattress, this topper is a fantastic entry point to upgrading your sleep setup.

Ultrasoft Knit Sheet Set
Sleep NumberPros:
- The extra-deep pockets and elastic bands ensure the sheets never pop off, even on thick mattresses
- Stretch-like material is naturally wrinkle-resistant, keeping the bed looking crisp and tailored
- Available in specialized fits like Flextop and Split King that are often hard to find in high-quality fabrics
Cons:
- If you enjoy traditional crisp cotton, this won’t be the sheet set for you, as it’s flexible and ultra-soft
If you have a thick mattress or use a plush topper, you know the struggle of sheets that barely cover the sides. These Sleep Number pockets are incredibly generous, staying tucked and tight without any of the daily re-tucking that usually comes with standard cotton sets. It gives the bed a tailored, hotel-quality look that doesn’t move until you’re ready to change the laundry.
I own a Sleep Number mattress and love it more than any other mattress I’ve ever slept on, but it also means that my FlexTop King requires very specific sheets that only Sleep Number sells.
I’ve fallen in love with an assortment of Sleep Number sheets, but I’ve really grown to enjoy the Ultrasoft Knit set over the past few weeks.
The fabric has maintained its elasticity, with no pilling or thinning. The oversized flat sheet is a subtle, luxurious touch, providing plenty of overhang so you aren’t fighting your partner for covers in the middle of the night, in theory, but I am still fighting mine, who has a tuck and roll approach to sleeping.
I have been sleeping on these sheets for 3-4 weeks now and have fallen in love with how soft they are. I especially appreciate the stretch-like material in the fabric.

Silk Pillowcase

Pros:
- It is 100% silk and feels super soft
- Helps keep my hair from tangling, reducing split ends
- Material helps skin maintain its natural moisture
- Machine washable
Cons:
- The silk is super slippery but also a very luxurious material
- Only comes in two shades
- Stains are highly visible
Investing in 100% silk has given me the ultimate beauty sleep, as it prevents morning tangles and helps my skin retain its natural moisture overnight.
While the care routine, washing on a cold, delicate cycle and laying it flat to dry, is a bit higher maintenance, the zipper closure keeps my pillow from sliding out. The maintenance is more than most pillowcases, but I find it worth it for better hair and skin.
It comes in only two colors. I prefer white to match my sheets. What can I say? Beauty comes at a price.

Warming Blanket
Sleep NumberPros:
- Features individual controls so you and your partner can each set your own warmth level without compromising comfort
- Includes a built-in 10-hour auto-shutoff
- Non-hazardous low voltage for added protection, even if the warming blanket becomes wet
- Comes in three colors
Cons:
- It doesn’t have a customizable hourly timer
My husband and I used to clutter our bed with two separate heated blankets, which created a bulky, disheveled college look that I really disliked.
This single warming blanket has been a luxury because it spans the entire bed, providing a clean, sophisticated appearance while still giving each of us our own individual controls to stay comfortable. Maybe I’m just getting old, but these are the small things that get me dancing with excitement.
While I do wish it featured a customizable hourly timer, it does include a reliable 10-hour auto-shutoff for peace of mind. It is currently available in three different colors and is a steal at 50% off, making it the perfect time to upgrade your sleep setup.
