If the Mets acquire Cliff Lee in a trade, they will win the NL East, according to AccuScore.com.

The website projects Lee to be the difference in a tight pennant race with the Braves and Phillies. If acquired at the July 31 trade deadline, Lee would increase the Mets’ projected win total by two (from 87 to 89), and that would be enough to edge the Braves for the title.

Without Lee, AccuScore says the Mets have a 32 percent chance to win the division at 87-75; with Lee, it increases to 50 percent at 89-73.

The Braves have a 35 percent chance without Lee, 43 percent with him. Lee would add one win to their projected total.

The Phillies have a 23 percent chance without Lee; 30 percent with him. Lee would add two wins to their projected total.

A report today said the Mets and Phillies were among 15 teams that have asked the Mariners about trading for Lee, with the Twins holding a slight edge.
