After not playing for nearly a month, Jozy Altidore made a dramatic return to the field for Hill City, assisting on a goal and drawing a penalty to set up another in today’s 2-2 draw against Wolves.
The New Jersey-born striker hadn’t played since Jan. 2, on compassionate leave after having family members go missing in the tragic earthquake in Haiti. But with Phil Brown shaking up the lineup, starting Altidore up top with Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink and 19-year-old Tom Cairney in midfield, Altidore rewarded his manager’s faith.
Altidore ran onto a long ball, used his big frame and shrugged off Christophe Berra, and passed to Vennegoor for the opening goal in the 11th minute. Then seven minutes into the second half, he chased down a bouncing ball in the box and drew a penalty from Ronald Zubar, with Stephen Hunt converting.
He almost added a goal of his own, but fellow U.S. National Team member Marcus Hahnemann knocked away. Check out the highlights of Altidore’s return to action below:
