Amanda Gorman got the nation’s attention when she read her poem at President Biden’s inauguration earlier this month. She’s about to get another massive stage.
The 22-year-old from Los Angeles will recite an original poem before Super Bowl 2021 in Tampa on Feb. 7, the NFL announced.
She is scheduled to take part in the pregame ceremony at Raymond James Stadium and the TV broadcast.
Gorman, the first person to be named National Youth Poet Laureate, will focus her poem on three honorary captains the league selected for the game: Trimaine Davis, a teacher in Los Angeles who made sure students had Internet access and laptops so they could continue their education during the pandemic; Suzie Dorner, a nurse from Tampa who is in charge of the COVID ICU at Tampa General Hospital; and James Martin, a Marine veteran who helped vets and their families stay in touch virtually with the Wounded Warrior Project.
