Angel finds new home in LA
It was a foregone conclusion that Juan Pablo Angel had played his final game in a Red Bulls uniform. But where would the prolific scoring Colombian end up? That answer came this afternoon when the Los Angeles Galaxy traded up to select Angel in the second phase of the MLS Re-Entry Draft.
Bruce Arena, who helped orchestrate Angel’s move to MLS from Aston Villa, made a trade with the Houston Dynamo to pick the out-of-contract Angel fourth.
Arena also snatched up Luke Sassano, who seldom played for Red Bulls coach Hans Backe after a productive rookie season under former coach Juan Carlos Osorio.
Angel wasn’t the only familiar face switching clubs. Central defender Jimmy Conrad went from Kansas City to Chivas USA, veteran fullback Frankie Hejduk left Columbus for Sporting KC and forward Josh Wolff also left KC for D.C. United as the first player selected.
Here’s the entire list of players selected in Wednesday’s Re-Entry Draft.
