Hoping to improve their bullpen as they try to hold on to the AL wild card, the A’s have contacted the Mets about Rick White, The Post has learned.

Oakland wants to acquire the 32-year-old reliever before midnight tonight, because the righty would then be eligible for their post-season roster.

Before last night’s game, GM Steve Phillips was pessimistic about making any waiver deals. The Mets have talked with the Tigers about former St. John’s standout C.J. Nitkowski.

White finished last night’s 6-2 win over the Phillies with two scoreless innings.

Last year, Oakland tried to acquire White from the Devil Rays before the Mets traded for him.

White’s been up and down this year. This month, he has not been at his best, having allowed three game-winning homers. On the season, White is 3-5 record and a 3.82 ERA.

If White were dealt, the Mets would cut costs in the bullpen. Next season, White is expected to receive a raise from his $1.15 million salary this year.
